Any ADHD Herbal Remedies Work Best with Dietary Changes

When considering ADHD herbal remedies, you should know they work best in combination with dietary changes. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder should not be confused with the normal spans of hyperactivity commonly seen in young children. Children who are overly prone to these periods, are easily distracted, and have poor concentration levels may be suffering from ADHD. There is one powerful Chinese herbal remedy for ADHD that has been known to work wonders when combined with diet and lifestyle changes.

Symptoms and Treatment Goal

The prevailing symptoms of ADHD include: hyperactivity, difficulty concentrating, forgetfulness, clumsiness, spontaneous behavior, a need for an egocentric environment ( center of attention). The usual treatments involve behavior management, counseling, special help at school and possibly some form of medication.

ADHD Herbal Remedies

Mix 12g of Chai Hu(hare’s ear root), 15g of Bai Shao(white peony root), 18g of Fuling(poria), 12g of Suan Zhao Ren(sour Chinese jujube seed), 30g of Zhen Zhu Mu(mother of pearl), 30g of Dai Zhe Shi(hematite), 15g of Di Huang(Chinese foxglove) 12g of Shan Zhu Yu(Asiatic cornelian cherry fruit), 15g of Shan Yao(Chinese yam), 12g of Zi Xie(water plantain rhizome), 12g of Dan Pi(cortex of tree peony root), and 12 g of Sang Shen Zi(mulberry root bark). Make a decoction of these herbs by placing the herbs in a ceramic or glass pot. Add 3 cups or water and bring to a boil. Simmer for 30 minutes. Strain and drink 1 cup twice daily. This is the best ADHD herbal remedy I know of. It is best to eat calming and cooling foods. Some of these are: apples, barley, cucumbers, aubergines, mung beans, mandarin oranges, pears, strawberries, and peppermint are a few suggestions.

Although this is a good herbal remedy for ADHD, it is recommended that the patient see a psychologist and a pediatrician as some form of medication may be needed. It has been found that the Feingold diet can be helpful in conjunction with other treatments. Supplements such as fish oil at 1-4g daily, a B-complex vitamin, and magnesium can be helpful. Gingko biloba can also be helpful. Take 60 to 120 mg per day. And finally, taurine, tyrosine, and tryptophan can be helpful in encouraging the body to relax.
