The Agrimony Plant

agrimony plantThe Agrimony plant grows across the United States and in southern Canada and is harvested during the summer months. All parts of the plant that grow above ground are used in herbal medicine.

The plant and its benefits

This plant is a toxic free astringent that’s safe for children to use. It’s most well-known for its wound-healing properties. Anglo-Saxons considered it to be a treatment for wounds, snake bites, and warts. The French apply this herb to sprains and bruises. It is generally considered to be useful in treating coughs, diarrhea, and relaxed bowels.

Specific conditions

This herb can be beneficial for treating many health conditions, including the following :
  • Bed-wetting - This herb can stop the irritation of the urinary tract. When the urinary tract becomes irritated, it can increase a child’s urge to urinate.
  • Bleeding - This herb has been in use for centuries to help stop bruising and bleeding because it helps the blood to clot.
  • Diabetes - Experiments with animals seem to indicate that infusions of this herb can help prevent the onset of type 1 diabetes. It also lowers blood sugar and counteracts excess thirst in people with type 2 diabetes.

Considerations and uses

This herb can be used in teas or tinctures. It’s non toxic so it’s very useful for children’s illnesses. While it’s useful for the treatment of diarrhea, you shouldn’t use it if you have difficulty with constipation. Also, don’t use it in combination with prunes or prune juice.
