Andiroba Oil is Good for the Skin

Andiroba oil comes from the tree of the same name. This tree is native to the rain forests of Colombia, Brazil, and Guyana and this tree can grow as high as 300 feet. The flowers produced by this tree have a pleasant aroma and the nuts which grow on the tree are similar in appearance to chestnuts. The oil in the nuts, the bark of the tree, the leaves, and the seed oil are all useful in herbal healing.

Health benefits of Andiroba oil

The oil of the tree is helpful in reducing inflammation because of substances found in the oil called “limonoids”. The oil aids in blood circulation to the surface of the skin and alleviates swelling and pain. Northwestern Amazons like to use the bark of the tree because of its effectiveness in reducing fever. They also make it into a tea because it’s said to fight against parasites such as worms. Its main use is for skin conditions and insect bites, and it’s a good insect repellent too. Testing has shown that the bark of the tree is antibacterial and the flowers fight against tumors. Other parts of the tree are antifungal. Other studies show that the oil from the heartwood may be beneficial against carcinogens. The oil of the tree is especially beneficial for many specific health concerns and conditions, including the following :
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis – The hot oil of the tree can be rubbed on the skin to alleviate symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis.
  • Bone fractures – The oil is high in essential Omega 3 fatty acids. These fatty acids enter through the skin and travel to the area of the fracture, where they help reduce inflammation and improve circulation. This helps relieve pain and swelling.
  • Cuts, scrapes, bruises, and insect bites – The oil helps damaged skin heal because it contains myristic acid, which is a building block of the outermost layer of skin. The oil also contains linoleic acid, which helps maintain healthy skin cells. This oil also guards the sin from developing age spots.
