Uses of Angelica Sinensis

This Chinese herb is used to treat female ailments almost exclusively. Ancient Chinese herbalists noticed that women who used angelica regularly conceived more easily, more often, miscarried rarely, and suffered less during menopause. As on of the few non-animal sources of the vitamin B-12 its uses are many. It can be used to treat gynecological ailments, fatigue, slight anemia, and high blood pressure. It is occasionally used as an aphrodisiac. It has been used for pain relief, as an anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, and is known to have a sedative effect in some patients. It can be used as a uterine tonic and to regulate hormones. These qualities make it useful in treatment of pre-menstrual syndrome and post- menopausal cases. The Chinese have been known to use Angelica Sinensis in skin creams and to fight of infections. They base this on its ability to kill off fungus, bacteria, and viruses.

An essential herb for women

The Chinese think that this plant is a must for women. It can be used at all periods of a woman’s life as a way to improve gynecological and overall health. The root of the plant can be boiled and used as a decoction. It can be made into a tincture. However, there are capsules now available, making it easy to use for anyone. The best recommendation is that a woman who wants relief during her menstruation should take the herb in capsule form for three weeks before her period. Menopausal and post-menopausal women can take the capsules every day. The sedative effect will dull the raw nerves and the anti-inflammatory aspect will help take the edge off of the cramping. The aphrodisiac effect can help with the loss of libido felt by some menopausal women.
