Take Artemisia for Bladder Infections

artemisiaArtemisia, better known as wormwood, is a bushy plant that grows two to four feet in height. It grows in the wild in Taiwan, China, and Japan. Before I talk about the medicinal properties and health benefits of this herb, I want to talk about the plant's past use and why some herbal guides mistakenly say that this herb could have similar effects to marijuana. In the late nineteenth century, a drink known as absinthe became popular due to its supposed mind-altering effects. Mind-altering effects which scientists now know were caused by the drink's extraordinarily high alcohol content. In addition to alcohol, absinthe also contained a form of artemisia. The reason this is bad for our herbal friend wormwood is because absinthe is believed to have played a part in the deaths of both Edgar Allan Poe and Vincent Van Gogh. After these two untimely deaths, absinthe acquired a nasty reputation. Unfortunately, since it was an ingredient in the drink, wormwood's reputation was also dragged through the mud so to speak.

The Health Benefits of Artemisia

Now that I have hopefully cleared up any misconceptions about this herb, let's talk about its medicinal benefits. This herb has strong antimicrobial qualities, which means that it's useful for fighting against several forms of bad bacteria and parasitic infections. It's also known to stimulate the body to produce bile.

Let's take a look at some of the illnesses and conditions this herb helps to ward off.

Bladder infections and parasites - This herb is a potent parasite fighter. Even though it kills parasites and cleanses intestinal walls, it's not harmful to intestinal flora. This is a good thing, because you need a healthy balance of flora in your intestinal tract to maintain a healthy, strong immune system. This herb is great at tackling various forms of bacteria too. If you're prone to getting urinary tract infections, you may want to try taking it. Its antimicrobial properties make it a great weapon to use against bacteria known to cause urinary tract infections and other conditions cased by bacteria like malaria.

Diarrhea and constipation - As I said before, this herb is great for cleansing and soothing irritated , inflamed intestinal walls. This action of the herb provides many side benefits. Not only does it aid the digestive process, it also helps ease conditions like diarrhea and constipation.

Improves liver function - This herb improves bile secretion in the body. This quality of the herb is good for your liver, because bile helps the liver to eliminate excess waste and toxins. This means that any condition caused by a malfunctioning liver can be improved by taking this herb. This include conditions like jaundice and hepatitis.
