Butcher's Broom is Great for Circulation

butchers broomButcher's broom is often known as the Knee Holly. It is a bush that blossoms in the spring, and it can be found most often in the Mediterranean and Europe. It's leaves are very similar to our well-known asparagus plant. Although, the difference in the leaves is that they are quite prickly, like a Holly. It's second name, the Knee Holly, was given to the plant because when fully grown, it can reach heights of up to three feet. Another name that has been given to the plant is Jew's Myrtle. It has often been said that this plant was popular during the Feast of Tabernacles.

The Health Benefits of Butcher's Broom

The health benefits of this herb are many. One of it's many medicinal purposes is that it used to help improve circulation. This herb is best known for the cleansing effects it has on blood vessels. This makes it a great treatment for chronic venous insufficiency. Butcher's broom has also been known to help prevent blood clots in several cases. Some European hospitals even use it after surgery to prevent blood clots. It also enhances blood flow to the brain, hands, and legs because of it being very rich in flavonoids, like rutin. Among other things, it also decreases retention of urine. This property makes the herb helpful for treating bladder infections.

Let's take a look at some of the specific illnesses and conditions this herb is useful for.

Some of the other illnesses that are treated by this plant are atherosclerosis, varicose veins, and hemorrhoids. The reason why the herb treats each of these conditions so well is because of the effect that it has on circulation and the veins. For example, atherosclerosis is a condition in which fatty materials block blood flow to the arteries. The result of this condition can be fatal if not treated. Butcher's broom can help to treat this condition by tightening the circulatory system's veins and strengthening the capillary walls, in addition to increasing blood flow. The benefit of this plant's possibilities are vital.

Considerations and Side Effects

If you are pregnant, or believe that you may be, then do not use the Knee Holly. Always consult with your doctor before starting any new treatments, and especially if you are already on any type of other medications or herbal treatments. This supplement is not for those who have high blood pressure. The most reported side effects have been those of nausea and queasiness, although they have been very rare. Take not to take the proper precautions when starting the supplement as a new treatment for a condition. Always discuss whether or not the benefit will be greater or less. Other than that, there really are no other associated side affects.
