Herbal Pain Remedies - Do they actually work?

You may be wondering if herbal pain remedies are really effective. You will be glad to know that the answer to that question is yes. There are several herbs and plants that are helpful in pain management. The herbs that I talk about in this article can be useful if you suffer from any kind of chronic pain condition and would like an alternative to prescription pain killers.

Before I tell you what those plants are, I would like to give a word of advice. If you have an area of your body that is causing you pain and discomfort, it’s important for you to seek medical attention first and foremost to make sure you don’t have something seriously wrong with you. Pain is your body’s way of telling you that there is something wrong in the body and you have to do something about it. If you have already seen a doctor and you know that it is going to be a chronic painful condition, there are natural options for you.

Firstly, you should know that you are not alone if you suffer from chronic pain. Unfortunately, there are millions of people who suffer debilitating pain every day. Perhaps, just like those millions of pain sufferers, the professional medical community hasn’t been able to ease your painful symptoms for one reason or another. If this is your situation, then herbal pain remedies can be a godsend.

Here is a list of several herbs and the painful conditions they can benefit :

  • Herbs for muscle pain - In addition to having a calming affect on the mind, chamomile is known to soothe smooth muscle tissue in the body. It should be prepared in a tea or taken as a capsule. Yarrow juice is good for lower back pain. Meadowsweet used as a infusion and works into sore muscles is helpful for soothing strained muscles.

  • Digestive pain - Meadowsweet is also beneficial for stomach and digestive pain discomfort. To treat stomach pain with this herb, use it in a tincture. Ginger is another herb that is beneficial in treating stomach upset, pain, and gas.

  • Anti-inflammatory herbs - Bromelain is known to be a powerful anti-inflammatory agent. Others herbs with anti-inflammatory properties include valerian root, saint John’s wort, and angelica. Angelica, also called dong quai, is also an effective pain reliever and eases spasms and muscle tension.

  • General pain – Pau D Arco – This herb is a very effective general pain reliever. Incidentally, it also stimulates the immune system to kill harmful bacteria. Willow Bark is another very good general pain reliever. Aspirin is made from compounds found in this plant. Wild oregano is probably one of the most powerful and effectively herbal pain remedies found in nature. It’s said to be almost as effective as morphine in its ability to relieve pain. It also has strong antiseptic and immune boosting properties.

So there you have it. If other pain management techniques have failed you and you would like some natural alternatives for chronic pain relief, give some of the herbal pain remedies I mentioned in this article a try. They just might help you to be pain free.
