Oil of Oregano – Oregano Oil is One of Nature’s Most Useful Remedies

One of the first groups of people to use oregano oil were the Greeks. It was referred to as the “delight of the mountains” due to the spicy yet sweet scent the plant gives off. You may be interested to know that it was believed that the Greek Goddess Aphrodite created this herb and used it as a symbol of happiness.

Therapeutic Uses of Oil of Oregano

Oil of oregano has numerous health benefits to offer as long as you are getting and using pure Oregano oil. Unfortunately oregano can easily be confused with a couple of other plants such as thyme, sage and marjoram. So look to make sure that what you are getting it pure, true oregano. This would be the wild oregano that grows in the Mediterranean. It is only from this region that you will get real Oregano oil. This being said, true Oregano oil can be used to treat indigestion and diarrhea. Nervous tension can also be alleviated with this oil. If you have an insect bite, toothache or an ear ache then oil of oregano can help you combat those annoyances as well. It is highly recommended that if you are going to use essential oils then next to tea tree oil you will want to make sure that you have Oregano oil as well.

How to Use Oil of Oregano

Oregano oil can be applied directly to the skin either pure or diluted. If you are using it to treat a skin condition applying it directly to the affected area is appropriate. Make sure that you avoid your weak areas such as your eyes. Wash your hands when you are done applying. If you are using the oregano oil to treat something like gingivitis, you can apply the oil to your tooth brush, applying once or twice a day. You will use this instead of toothpaste. Trying to treat sinus congestion or even emphysema then inhaling the vapors of the herb can do wonders for you. The vapors will help clear out your throat and nasal passages of all the bad stuff. The bacterial, viral or fungal things that are causing you to feel the way you do. As with anything, it is best that you talk with your doctor before starting any essential oil therapy. Making sure that the use of the oregano oil will not have any adverse reactions with your individual health condition.
